Lower Summer Bridge is a class intended for children currently in 1st and 2nd grade. We will cover activities and skills that will allow students to review, learn and at the same token feel confident when the new school year begins. The course consists of two hours of academics and two hours of ART and PE/Swimming and Fun Fridays are a great way to end the week!

The purpose of this course is to reinforce the subjects of Reading, Writing and Math for grades 3rd-5th. In addition, this course is also meant to help students develop and refine organizational skills. A project based learning approach will be implemented to ensure the use of higher level thinking throughout the duration of the course.

This is a 4-hour a day Language Arts course focusing on each child as an individual learner. The child will benefit from two experienced Language Arts teachers who will focus on reading and writing. Each student will receive instruction at his or her level. Students must have a working knowledge of English to enter the course.

ES 4 - DISCOVER NICARAGUA (Ages 7-10)

$110 per week / $400 for 4 weeks

This is a summer camp where children will be learning real life experiences through weekly projects including science experiments, art, music, Spanish, English and healthy habits. We will be visiting different places in Nicaragua. Each week, the children will be focusing on different themes that have to do with the weekly field trip (volcanoes, pottery, flora and fauna, farms and agriculture). The last week, we will have a camping night with families. Transportation will be covered by the school but entrance fees to the National Parks will be collected before each field-trip.

Campers will learn to use new media and be able to practice the ones they know already, such as painting, printmaking and sculpturing. They will also learn about different artist, painters and sculptors. Arts and crafts will be made using recyclable material.

Students will explore a variety of children’s games using nursery rhymes, songs, jump-roping, theatre arts, circle games and dances. In addition, students will be exposed to percussion instruments like Hand-Drums, Sticks, Maracas; Recorders and Xylophones. Students will have fun reading music. They will be introduced to stick notations using figures and colors and reading rhythms through games like Tic Tac Toe, Copy Cat and Rhythm Snake. Also, students will develop their singing skills, using their voices in various ways like calling voices, whispering voices, singing voices and talking voices.

This immersion program is designed to improve verbal communication and comprehension of young learners. Through a multi-sensory approach, learners improve their speaking and listening skills. This course is based in an active method (students learn by doing). Learned material is revisited at strategic points through the use of games, songs, rhymes, stories, crafts.

More than just being able to summarize and locate information in fiction and non-fiction text, students will think critically. They will analyze context to make inferences and draw conclusions about story elements, themes, figurative language, vocabulary, and author’s point of view. Students will learn to skim read as well as to read thoroughly, making annotations. Students will read a variety of genres appropriate for young adults, to build reading stamina and fluency. Teacher will scaffold information appropriate for English Language Learners.
ES 10 - Constructive Writing

Students will strengthen English writing skills by developing cohesive, structured, and organized ideas within solid paragraphs. Students will improve Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Grammar by analyzing, revising, and editing. They will also plan clear outlines to be able to develop short expository essays with a clear message and purpose. Teacher will scaffold information appropriate for English Language Learners by using Writer’s Workshop and strategic mini-lessons.
